The most well known VOIP phone service is Skype, normally a software running on a PC. But all too often I've found it plagued by poor quality connections and drop outs. Broadband VOIP phones normally offer a far superior call quality. They use the internet connection available in most homes, offices and hotel-motels, and even can be in Caravans and trucks using wireless mobile. Connecting them is normally very simple. We have been using broadband VOIP since 2007 without noticeable difference in quality compared to the standard phone service. I even take the VOIP phone when travelling interstate or overseas, as once connected to the internet line in the hotel etc, we can make calls just as if at home, at the same low home local call costs and no charge for incoming calls, plus Adelaide callers to my number only pay a local call fee, no matter where I am.
* There are several VIOP service suppliers with many home and business packages. Please check with them for a suitable option.
